Q:

How can I join CCLI as a song owner or administrator of copyrights?

A:

Are your songs currently being used for congregational worship in multiple churches? If not, there would be no benefit to yourself or the Church Copyright License for you to join at this time. If your answer is yes that your songs are currently being used in multiple churches, please email copyright@ccli.com with the following information: 1. Email subject line must read: WEB ROA 2. Name (first and last name and/or dba, company name) 3. Mailing address 4. Phone & fax numbers 5. Email address

Q:

Is there a fee for joining CCLI as a song owner or administrator?

A:

There is a one-time application fee of $50.00 which must accompany your signed CCLI Regional Owner Agreements.

Q:

Can I fill out the agreements online and email them to CCLI?

A:

The CCLI Owner Agreements are not available on the CCLI website. Once you’ve contacted the CCLI Copyright Dept and fulfilled the initial requirements the contracts will be emailed to you. They must be printed, manually filled out and mailed to CCLI along with the $50.00 application fee.

Q:

How can I copyright (register) my songs?

A:

You may protect the copyright ownership of your songs by registering them with the Library of Congress. Information on registering your songs and the necessary forms are available at www.copyright.gov., or you may call 202-707-5959.

Q:

Must my songs be copyrighted (registered) before listing them with CCLI?

A:

It is not necessary to register your songs with the Library of Congress before affiliating with CCLI.

Q:

Does affiliating with CCLI as a song owner protect the ownership (copyright) of my songs?

A:

CCLI is not a copyrighting agency; therefore, affiliation with CCLI does not protect the copyright of your songs.

Q:

Do I retain all rights to my songs when affiliating with CCLI as a song owner?

A:

Yes; the song ownership and all associated rights remain with the copyright holder of the songs. Signing the CCLI Regional Owner Agreements merely allows CCLI to include your works in the Church Copyright License.

Q:

Can I affiliate with CCLI and also be a member of ASCAP, BMI or SESAC?

A:

Yes, you can. CCLI tracks only church copy activity. Since these performance rights organizations track areas of reporting not covered by CCLI (i.e., airplay and performance), it may be beneficial for song owners to affiliate with both CCLI and one of these organizations.

Q:

How much do songwriters earn for their songs?

A:

CCLI royalties earned are dependent on the quantity and size of the churches that use your songs and the type of copy activity that has taken place. Because of these factors it is not possible for us to estimate royalty earnings.

Q:

Will churches have access to my music?

A:

Churches will have access to your lyrics if you sign the Song Select Distribution Agreement which is included in the agreement packet.

Q:

Will CCLI publish or promote my music?

A:

No; CCLI is not a publisher and is not involved in the promotion and marketing of music. Many song owners begin promoting their songs by sending their product to the churches in their area or to those churches that are a part of their fellowship.

Q:

Must I be a publishing company in order to affiliate with CCLI?

A:

No; both individuals and publishing companies who own and/or administer songs can affiliate with CCLI.
